Mary Nunes, missing for more than 10 years with her fugitive mother Genevieve Scott Nunes Kelley, is back in the United States. She and her stepfather Scott Kelley were met by US Marshals as they walked off a plane in Atlanta, Georgia this week. Kelley was arrested and Mary, now 19, was questioned and released.
Mary Nunes' father says he is "overjoyed Mary is alive and back in the US."
There seem to be two stories. People.com reports that Kelley turned himself into the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica but sources close to the case report this is not a true account of the events. The U.S. Marshals office will be making a public statement about these events soon.
Genevieve Kelly returned to United States with her son by Scott Kelley in 2014 and is now awaiting trial in New Hampshire.
A search for Mary and her horse Nikki was launched years ago by Stolen Horse International through our NetPosse Alerts and website, www.netposse.com. Soon after the TV show hosted by John Walsh, America's Most Wanted, picked up the story and aired information about Mary's non-custodial kidnapping and NetPosse.com.
Genevieve accused Mark Nunes, Mary's father of sexual abuse to gain custody of Mary. When the case was investigated Mark was not charged or convicted of the crime. Instead Genevieve ended up fleeing the country and was charged with non-custodial kidnapping and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution by the U.S. Justice Department.

Stolen Horse International was contacted by the U.S. Marshals office and requested to assist in the search for Mary and her horse Nikki. Evidence was presented at the time to Stolen Horse International by a representative of the U.S. Marshals office that explained in detail the case and reason for the subsequent charges against the mother. Stolen Horse International, although not a missing children’s network, was given permission to by the Missing Children's Network to use their logo in our parallel searches for Mary. Thanks to the work of the U. S. Marshal working the case and Stolen Horse International's NetPosse Alert network, Mary's story was picked up by AMW and other TV shows. We have been searching for Mary and following this story since we were contacted by the U.S. Marshal's office.
