Fran Severn - It's Never Too Late For Horses
Fran's book, Riders of a Certain Age is poised to provide an important reference to any individual who craves the companionship of a horse and the sisterhood that can go along with it. If you have ever wondered what it might be like to “be an equestrian” but aren’t sure which steps to take first, Fran Severn provides all you need to get started safely, comfortably, and with confidence—and with the knowledge that you are far from being alone.

Fran Severn is a freelance writer and broadcaster who grew up in the city but was determined to get horses in her life. After earning her degree in Mass Communications, she worked in broadcast news in Louisville, Kentucky, where she covered the Kentucky Derby, events at the Kentucky Horse Park, produced equine-focused features, and finally bought her first horse. Moving to England with her Air Force husband, she discovered dressage and continued her training when she returned to the states. Her work has appeared in USDF Connection, Newsday, The Trail Rider, Western Horseman, Dog Fancy, and Games.

She’s written about the exclusive “tailgate” party at the Royal Enclosure at the Ascot races, shipping horses to the Olympics, riding on Civil War battlefields, and the chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede. A past president of the Eastern Shore Writers Association and former PR Director for the Maryland Office of Tourism Development, she lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where she enjoys riding on the beaches and trails and promoting local equine activities and businesses and travel to the region. Her father was a harness horse trainer who traveled and raced horses until he retired in the '70s, owned and ran riding stables in the 50s and 60s, and was a Standard Horse breeding farm manager and trainer. Stolen Horse International, Inc., a 501(c)(3), an all-volunteer-run nonprofit organization known as NetPosse.com, was started by Harold and
Debi Metcalfe in 1997 after the theft of their horse Idaho. There was no education or place to turn for help when Idaho was stolen. It was during the 51 weeks that it took to find their horse that the Metcalfes knew something needed to be done for the tens of thousands of victims like themselves.

Although they never envisioned where they would be decades later, their leadership, inventiveness, and admirable contribution toward positive changes in the equine industry, these visionaries have filled a gap in the equine industry worldwide and are true pioneers.

Stolen Horse International is the only organization of its kind in the world that is not only known for its strong missing, lost, found, and stolen equine NetPosse Alert network but also focuses on Education aimed at helping horse owners learn to be proactive and protect horses before the worst happens.

Spearheading all operations of the organization is founder and President Debi Metcalfe, whose passion brings Education to the public in various ways through Stolen Horse International's Educational Outreach Program. Some of Metcalfe's and the organization's accomplishments are listed below.

She speaks at national events, including the World Equestrian Games. Her message is powerful and inspirational. Metcalfe, author of Horse Theft, Been There--Done That. To learn more about Metcalfe's accomplishments, click the following link. https://netposse.com/article.asp?id=68
