OWNER FOUND! - Found Sorrel Horse in King County, WA – 1/21/07

Turns out his name is Jedi and I have found his owner. Apparently she thought a friend was taking care of him for the last eight weeks and she was unable to come check on him so she didn't know that he wasn't being fed.~ Kristi 1/29/07

how where found: Abandoned in pasture

city/county found: Enumclaw, King County, WA

horses name: "O.B." - Old Bones

breed: Maybe QH?

sex: Gelding

color: Chestnut

age: Guess is over 15

weight: Maybe 800lbs if he's lucky

height: Approx. 16.1 hands

identifiable characteristics: Crooked blaze that ends before nostrils and then snip on nose, four white socks

how found details: We saw him starving in a pasture and when we asked the property owners who he belonged to they said he had been dropped off two months earlier and nobody had come back and no money had been paid to them for board. They said they'd left messages for the person who dropped him off (all they had was a phone number) but hadn't heard back. When we told them it was abuse to have him on their property and not feed him they told us to take him if we wanted him. I took him home and am nursing him back to health - he's very underweight, has an eye infection, needed his feet trimmed badly and is covered in bite or kick wounds. We're calling him Old Bones after the famous racehorse Exterminator.

A friend of mine recently found a starving (see pictures) horse in a pasture at the farm she rents a pasture from. She called the property owners to inquire about this horse and was told that "a girl dropped him off two months ago and said she'd be back in a day and never came back". She then asked them if they were feeding it and they told her it wasn't their horse to feed. She then told them that another friend of ours was calling Animal Control as it was abuse to let a horse starve (I believe she used the friends name for fear of them not letting her rent there). They then told her that all they had was a phone number for this horses owner and that they'd left messages and the calls weren't returned... and they went on to say "if you want or know someone who can take care of it just take it" and acted put out by the whole thing. This is when I was called, as I am the friend with the big heart that can't say no to animals in need, and the horse was brought to my barn.
I am nursing the horses eye infection and many wounds (look like bites from other horses or rubs on barbed wire?) as well as trying to put weight back on him slowly/safely. In the meantime I wonder who really owned this horse and I pray someone isn't looking for him. I have been leery of going to the police as I fear my having him may not be legal and I fear form him going anywhere else. I have posted "Found" ads on pets911 and petfinder... can I post one on your site as well? It mentions having the horse legally and I don't even know if I'd be considered a thief?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!
