SKY'S THOUGHTS - I have always been around horses ever since
I was little. I love them so much and
especially love to go riding. I've probably been riding since I was about 5. I would always go on the trails with Red an old horse that
I had and Cimmorron would always follow right behind.
I would always put the saddle and bit on Cimmorron and if he were around today
I think he would be a wonderful riding horse. Horses are my favorite animals and always have
been. I hate it so much that anyone would ever think of doing that to a horse.
Its really mean and inconsiderate.
I feel that a lot of people don't think the whole thing with Cimmorron is a big deal. I think it is and when
I get older I plan on becoming an actress and making a Movie about it to show how hard it really is to actually deal with all the things you have to go through. I think that it would turn out as a good movie.
Well now I have lady and I rode her a few times.
She is great. She is really nice and sweet and I love her so much.
Thank you so much for your help.
Sincerely,
Sky Dutcher

(Many people came to aid the Dutcher family in
their crisis. Many were ready to give Sky a new horse to
help her heart mend. Lady is the horse that as chosen and
brought to her from Ohio by two more kind people.
Unfortunately they had a terrible accident in Columbus on the way
home. Our prayers are with them.)
The family and Alix have requested
for those that want to help to donate to the Cimarron Memorial
Fund

We have asked Debi to set up a Cimarron Memorial Fund so that those of you who would like to help can make a donation to Stolen Horse International (without whom we couldn't have gotten as far as we have) in memory of our beloved Cimarron. All of us have agreed that we do not want Cimarron's death to have been in vain. Debi works tirelessly to reunite horses with their proper owners but all this costs money. Debi could accomplish so much more if she could build a database. We would be able to increase the speed at which stolen horses recovered. Horses like Cimarron where time is of the essence. Please, please let's help Debi continue on with SHI and help prevent this tragedy from happening to someone else.
Updates: 12-13-04 Cimarron's
Story - On November 26, 2004 a beautiful four year old Morab
gelding named Cimarron was stolen from his pasture. It just so happened to be the same day as his young mistresses (Sky
Dutcher) birthday making it a Black Friday indeed.
It took several days of searching in vain (due to numerous lies by the thief and
wildgoosechases) to come to the realization that something much worse had happened. When confronted by the police the thief said he had given the horse away. When the date the horse disappeared also coincided with the last Horse Sale at Chambers Auction Barn in Unadilla, NY the facts slowly began to unravel. It was soon discovered that the horse had indeed gone to this auction and been sold to Don Nickerson a meat buyer from Bainbridge, NY.

Cimarron, stolen from NY is dead!
(copy of email notification from SHI)
12-9-04 - It is with great sadness and through tearful eyes that I am writing this letter. At this mailing Cimmaron's family, other than Dale's mother, may not have been notified that Cimarron has died. They do not have internet access. I received a call yesterday afternoon from Alix, who put her life aside to help the Dutcher's find their stolen horse. She found out that the buyer, a man named Nickerson in
Pennsylvanian, after providing the lot number to another source matched a horse already sent through a slaughter facility.

Read Alix's
note: It is with a very heavy heart that I report that Cimarron did indeed make the trip along the "Torture Trail" to Richelieu in Quebec.

Let's not let his
death be in vain! - 12/10/04
As I sit here unable to sleep tonight because of all the thoughts running through my brain I am pondering what could have prevented this
tragedy. Because of the thief's lies and setting us on 'wild goose chases' we were unable to save Cimarron. Everything moved so fast that it was already too late when we finally realized what had happened. I truly believe that one thing could have prevented this. I KNOW Cimarron did not have a current coggins (because I was the last one that had it done) and went through the sale and up to Canada without one. Does anyone know (or how to find out) if there are 'special' circumstances for horses slated for slaughter?

There are many people working to bring Cimarron (the horse) home to his 13 year old owner who is devastated. Not everyone contacted has been helpful or understands the severity (emotionally, financially, etc.) of this situation. We need help, and think this needs to be taken to a regional- even national- level. We are asking that everyone help to get the word out and put
this man behind bars. A precedent needs to be set so that others don't think it's acceptable to steal horses because hey, even if you get caught not much will be done about it.
I realize that some of you that I am sending this to do not live in the county of Delaware (scene of the crimes jurisdiction) but I am asking you to please call the Delaware County District Attorney Richard D. Northrop, Jr. His office phone number is 607-746-3557 and let him know that the horse owners in both his community and surrounding areas are VERY concerned about this case. After all, if he sets a precedent indicating that you can take somebody's horse, sell it, and get no consequences what's to stop others from doing this?
I have discovered that horse theft is more prevalent than most of us realize. The authorities don't consider 'horse thieving' that big of a deal because they don't really know what to do and very few people actually report it or peruse it. This could happen to any one of us and we need to let this DA know that we are watching very closely and that he needs to do the right thing. It's almost Christmas and all this little girl wants is her horse back, he was actually stolen and sold on her birthday! If the horse community bands together and puts a little pressure we can do something!
PS_ As I was typing this the DA called me back, he was unaware of what is going on so I enlightened him. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE TO CALL AND VOICE THEIR CONCERNS. I
CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE! PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU!
