Subject: [netposse] Sassy, and how she is doing.........   Date: 8/26/2005 8:02:14 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time
I have received some emails from wonderful folks wanting to know how
Sassy is now. I am happy to report that she is doing just great! She has healed up wonderfully (thanks for the recipe Donna) and only has a couple of lacerations that still need to be treated.

Unfortunately, the strong antibiotics and steroids she was put on did cause some damage to her kidneys. She goes through a tremendous amount of water each day in an effort to keep herself hydrated. A blood test proves that she is getting what she needs, but she also floods her stall everyday. The vet hopes that her kidneys will recover. In the mean time, it just makes me want to kill the SOB who did this to her a little slower.....

Joe has began to ride her again. It is so wonderful! He sits up in her saddle, and she just holds her head up high with so much pride. These two were definitely meant to be together. They rode through a
cattle pasture and she began to work the cattle. She was just so happy to be there! Due to her awful weight loss during her capture she lost a lot of muscle tone. You can tell that she is gaining that back along with the rest of her weight.

I am now thankful that Sassy was injured. I know that sounds sick, but if she wouldn't have been cut up, she would have been sold. The woman who bought her was in Alabama last weekend at a sale. She
moved some animals there to be sold. She lives in Cleveland Tn. I am convinced that Sassy would have been moved as well and we may have never recovered her. Again, THANK YOU MARIANNE!!!!

We go to court soon, and the SOB has elected to stay in jail until that time. Guess he knows that there are some angry people just waiting for him to bond out.......

Again, thank you SHI!

Date: 8/4/2005 1:21:42 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time - A note form Sara

Just wanted to let you all know that THE phone call we have been waiting for came this evening! It led us to Cleveland, TN, where
Marianne Cheaves was waiting. The horse trailer that had been stolen along with Sassy was there, and the only words my husband spoke were
these, "WHERE IS THE HORSE"? When she was led out to us, it was both happy and sad. It was her, in the flesh, however, she was cut up terribly. My husband inspected the damage, and became filled with anger. His baby was hurt. She is obviously stressed and in pain.  She also seems.....well....angry at him!  Like we did this to her intentionally!

The vet will be here soon to access the damage, and we will begin the healing process. We have flesh to heal as well as hearts. I can't wait until the children see her tomorrow!

To the jerk who stole her, may your misery begin as you become a seriously wanted man!  We refused to give up on Sassy, and we will NOT give up until you are in custody!

More details will come soon, as we just got back and it is very late. THANK YOU so much to ALL of you! We couldn't have done this without you.

Sara

8/5/2005 8:15:40 P.M. - Sassy is very swollen today. She limps on her  front leg and it just KILLS me! Our suspect is still at large. This makes me VERY ANGRY!  It is one thing to steal someone's loved one (horse) for a case of beer, but it is another thing to torture her!!! I don't think there will ever be any forgiveness on my part. This animal - that depends on us for her protection - has suffered too much. - Sara

Shawn 8/4/2005 7:08:08 P.M. - :  Hi-I just read that Sassy was recovered. Praise God!  Absolutely fantastic! I can only imagine how relieved and grateful and excited her family must be. How was she found? I know she was found in Cleveland. I live here and had been putting up flyers and talking about her. Was it at an auction, through a horse dealer, or what? I know I'm not the only one interested. Please when you have a chance, write about the story of her rescue and her injuries.  Thank you so much, and congratulations!
Shawn

Sue 8/4/2005 10:08:21 P.M. - Persistence Pays! Sassy was recovered near a livestock and horse auction location with her trailer in Cleveland, TN, a favorite location to pass stolen horses through what is usually and endless cycle of auctions until the trail can no longer be followed.  Not a true happening in this case thanks to tips and the vigilance of the mass network of NetPosse Volunteers.  (Owners and a few Law Enforcement Officers too.)

Thanks!
