Peanut is Missing from McKinney, TX.  Have you seen her?  RECOVERED 7/6/06

July 9, 2006  Thank you note from owner
A very happy hello to everyone---Peanut was found and safely returned home!!

I apologize for being out the email loop for the past several days. We have finally finished our move and are waiting for the internet to be installed at the new house. Arrgh-I feel so separated from the rest of the world without it!

Anyways, I just wanted to drop a short note to tell everyone the great news and to ask for your patience over the next couple days until I can get the photos uploaded and all the details sent out.

In the meantime, I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your thoughts and prayers and kind words of encouragement. Many of us have never met, but please know that I am so grateful to you all. The amount of time and energy and money that was spent on Peanut's search just leaves me speechless. For without all of your actions and prayers, Peanut might not have made it back home... Having Peanut home again has made me so happy!

With sincere gratitude,

Christina and Peanut

July 6, 2006 - PEANUT IS HOME!!!!

Here are a few excerpts from an email received from Christina’s family after Peanut’s recovery …

A man living walking distance from Ms. Redlin held Peanut for three weeks and made no effort to contact ANYONE that he was in possession of the horse. Stolen Horse International and Equine Habitat exhausted every effort to get the word out about this horse and had not let up for three weeks. SHI [volunteers] mailed postcards to every home in the zip code, which arrive a few days ago. In the last two days, another 1,200 fliers were mailed about this horse.

SUDDENLY, the neighbor, (name withheld), called the Sheriff about a horse that was tearing up his fence and he "didn't know what to do". …

[The neighbor] clearly wanted new fence. Ms. Redlin inspected the fence and found only old fence, broken in many places and rusted-over at the splices. Hardly three week old damage. The horse was not injured in any way. No marks. Odd for a horse that was crashing trough fence repeatedly for three weeks. …

We realize and are truly grateful that the horse has been found. That's the most important thing. BUT – as a horseowner... I must tell you, this goes on all the time. It is our ardent belief that the hard work and dedication of Debi Metcalfe of SHI, its volunteers, including Cynthia Lawhon of Texas, and Equine Habitat out of Austin are the reason this horse was "found". It simply got too hot for [the neighbor], whose driveway can be seen from Ms. Redlin's property.

[The neighbor] knew we were combing the area and driving by slowly "looking for something". He even told the Sheriff he'd seen Ms. Redlin driving a red Avalanche with kids in the car, turning around in his drive. Yet he made no effort to find the horse's owner. He "thought" someone would post a sign on FM 546. How did he know where the horse's owners should post a sign? Why didn't he call anyone for three weeks? I personally believe his story is well planned, but falls apart under minimal scrutiny.

There is more to this story and Christina’s family intends to follow up on the mysterious events that led to Peanut’s recovery just a stone’s throw from her pasture… ~ NetPosse 7/8/06

From Debi on July 6, 2006 ...
Christina called me this afternoon and said she had received a call identifying where Peanut was located.  Later this evening they were able to go there and bring Peanut home.  She would like to thank all the people who helped in any way and would like you to know how much those emails in her box meant.  Be sure to send her congratulation emails!  She promises to write her story and send homecoming pictures in the next couple of days

Search & Rescue Trail Day being organized for Peanut in Texas … WE NEED YOU!

NetPosse is imploring your help in finding Peanut … missing from her pasture in Collin County, Texas, since June 16.

Her owner has made pleas through local media, but to no avail. Where is Peanut? Is she lost and wandering in unknown territory or has someone found her?

Peanut’s family is organizing a Search & Rescue trail ride for either July 8 or July 15. Here is where they desperately need help. The actual date will depend on the response received:

  • NetPosse member needed to research area riding clubs and send notices out to ask they join the search on horseback
  • NetPosse member who has contact with someone in Collin’s County Sheriff’s dept. to share info with them and see if they can participate or help in any way
  • NetPosse volunteers needed as “team captains” for smaller search parties
  • NetPosse volunteers needed to check riders in/out
  • NetPosse members needed to donate items or food to feed search and rescue teams
  • NetPosse members to donate or find an area business to donate a nice prize to be offered to anyone locating Peanut
The family is asking for volunteers to join them or donate to the cause. Proceeds will be given to Stolen Horse International. This event is intended to bring Peanut home, but it can also bring NATIONAL attention to the plight of people whose horses are stolen and missing. This is your chance to help from near or far!

Another horse missing the same week in a similar fashion has already been found this week – let’s bring Peanut home safely so we’ll have more cause to celebrate!

For more information on the proposed Search & Rescue Trail Ride and updates, please see Peanut’s page on NetPosse.com: Peanut - Missing in Collin County, Texas

Note from Christina’s family:

We can do it July 8th or July 15th. Hate to wait any longer, but how else can we do it. We need time to organize. I would have done this before on my own, but have not found riding clubs.

Here's what I have so far:

Where's Peanut?
Search and Rescue Trail Day
Date: July 8th and or July 15th Time: 7:00 am until ???
Where: TBD

(We may need several locations to depart from. The area is so vast that we may do better searching from several points and meeting in the middle.)

LUNCH provided.

We need horses and riders to search for Peanut. Captains to lead search groups. Volunteers to help "man" check in / out. Donations are requested. All proceeds go to Stolen Horse International (less cost for food???).

The afternoon is guaranteed to be fun and exciting and with the good Lord's help, we'll find out beloved Peanut in good health ready to come home.

I'd like to offer a prize to the team that finds Peanut, but we neither one have much cash to throw in for that. This may change, but for the time being, we can ask people to help out of the goodness of their hearts.

You will need a method to bring your horse and water & snacks for the all-day ride. Again, Lunch will be provided. Given the logistics, I think we'll just make up box lunches to send with folks -- Lunchmeat, chips, soda, apple. Or we can have a central meeting place to cook out. Ideas?

Debi, what else am I missing. Late this afternoon, I am driving down there to see where we can "start" from. There's one church and 1000 acres of corn. You're in contact with the Collin County Sheriff / Livestock Deputies, right? Do you think they could help with ideas about WHERE we can start from? I still think we need more than one location.

Thanks, Julie Ruth
