how missing details: Sep was loaded on the wrong trailer in Ohio by mistake and
passed through either one or two other people's possession within a couple of
weeks before he surfaced at the Shepherdsville, KY auction and was bought by a
kill buyer there. This buyer ran him through the Rushville, IN horse auction the
following night (3/15) and he was bid on by a man that seemed to know the kill
buyer for $700. We have contacted all slaughter plants and are waiting to hear
from local authorities whether the was delivered to the Cavel Slaughter plant in
Dekalb, IL, where this kill buyer regularly delivers loads.
other notes: Hi everyone, we are tracking a kill buyer who is in possession of a horse that is
most likely headed to slaughter at one of the plants in the north,
likely Cavel in Illinois. This horse is an off track TB who should not be on this rig, the
killer buyer had him at the Shepherdsville KY sale this Monday
(March 14,2005) and refused to sell him back to us. He then surfaced at the Rushville, IN auction and ran the horse
through the auction there. A legitimate bidder went as high as $500
on this horse and was then outbid by the rig driver himself, who is
tagging along with the killer buyer from Sale to Sale.
We've now lost track. We believe he will be headed to Cavell in Dekalb Illinois.
The rig we are looking for is a burgundy cab tractor trailer semi livestock transport (might possibly be a double decker) with ONTARIO
license plates.
Please, if any of you are out there anywhere, highways, interstates,
rest stops, auction/livestock yards, anywhere at all, please make a
mental note to be on the lookout for this rig. We are desperately trying to get this horse back and we need the actual license
plate number and DOT numbers for this rig.
Time is of the essence, Cavell processes again on Monday, so there
is a good chance they will be on the way there this weekend.
They might also stop through other sales, the rig was not full yet,
Sugarcreek OH, Shipshewana IN, Illinois sales, possibly up towards
Canada.
Thanks very much for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
3-20-05 I don't have good news.
Just received a call from the Dekalb police. They entered the plant and found a few carcasses still hanging, but they were already processed- no hide, no feet, no heads.
They weren't able to enter the container which is used to dump the heads and feet, the officer told me it would have been impossible, a small opening at the top with a conveyor belt where everything gets dumped. You'd literally be standing in a mountain of fresh, bloody, decomposing remains.
The man dropped two loads on FRIDAY. Without a subpoena, they won't surrender the buyer slips (sheets of paper with generic descriptions of the horses).
The officer will get in touch with this man via phone to ask him where the horse ended up, however, he has told 3 different stories so far, incl. telling folks in his own "circle" that he did not remember ANY TBs from Shepherdsville sale. The man is lying, and I'm sure, smiling to himself at the same time.
I'm still hoping there was some truth to his "story" of "the gelding was sold to a private party for $700".
I should have said to hell with my job and driven up to Rushville myself to pay whatever it would have taken to get him back.
