owners name: Marissa Knapp
city: Westwood
state: NJ
zip: 07675
home phone: 646-808-7308
date_of_theft: Nov 2004
city county_of_theft: Middleburgh, NY
horses name: total of 4 horses/ponies
how_stolen: Caretaker sold him through the Chambers Auction House in Unadilla, NY without our knowledge or permission. He had no legal right to do this and
did not have any kind of title or ownership or legal claim on this horse.
-----------------------------------------------------------
First Horse:
horses_name: Ghostdancer
breed: POA Leopard Appaloosa
sex: gelding
color: white with brown and some black spots
age: 5 yrs
weight: unk
height: 13.3 - 14.h approx
identifiable_characteristics: Blue eyes with black spots in the lower half of the blue, pink nose, very spunky.
other_notes: The owner has raised this horse from a 3 month old weanling and loves him dearly and it just devastated by this. All anyone wants is to find
him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Second Horse:
horses_name: Andy
breed: Pony
sex: gelding
color: white/off white, matching mane and tail
age: aged
weight: unk
height: 14.h approx
identifiable_characteristics: Aged cremello/very very pale palomino. One blue eye and missing the other eye. He is very hard to catch, nearly impossible and has little intrest in people. Last seen his mane was fairly long.
other_notes: The owner loves this old guy to pieces and is devastated by this. Because of his age, blindness in the one eye and his total lack of interest in people and his uncooperativeness we're terrified he may have been sold to the meat dealers. We're praying someone with a soft spot in their hearts bought him and that he is safe until we find him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Third Horse:
horses_name: Tristian
breed: Palomino Foundation Quarter Horse
sex: gelding
color: palomino
age: 4 yrs old
weight: unk
height: 14h - 14.2h approx
identifiable_characteristics: white blaze on face and one white hind sock (right leg) pale gold color, some pink on nose very, very sweet,
other_notes: The owner has raised this horse since he was a six month old weanling and loves him very deeply. She is devastated by this and all we want is to simply find him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Fourth Horse:
horses_name: Nero
breed: appaloosa pony
sex: chryptorchid stallion
color: white underneath with a grey blanket over his entire body
age: 4yrs
weight: unk
height: 13h approx
identifiable_characteristics: White sclerea, striped hooves, undescended testicles so he appears to be a gelding but behaves like a stallion, kind of an ornery little guy, built like a small horse.
other_notes: Nero is kind of ornery so he doesn't readily endear himself to many people. He is very special and loved very much by his owner though, and she is terrified that because of his attitude, he may have been sold to the meat buyers. Please if you have seen him contact us asap.

We are trying to locate four ponies that disappeared in a barter arrangement
gone very bad.
They were to be boarded by a farm owner for three months until her new place
was ready in return for a stallion he was given. He never returned the
ponies, first he said that he'd deliver them to the new barn when his truck
was repaired, then he was sick, then his son had a bad car accident, his
wife had to go for surgery, etc, etc. The owner said she was going to get
another shipper to go and pick them up and he said that the road up to his
farm wasn't passable at that time but as soon as it was he'd deliver them.
This went on and on and the owner began to worry so she asked someone to go
to his farm and check on the horses. They called and told her the horses
weren' t there. She called the farm owner and he lied over and over again
about their whereabouts saying that he had moved them temporarily to his
friends farm because he had purchased too many horses to re-sell in NY and
he was over-crowded. He told the pony owner that the friend's farm was very
hard to find and he'd take her there but whenever the day they were supposed
to go got close he came up with excuse after excuse. She lived very far from
the farm and doesn't drive so she had not been able to go herself to check
on them but this was someone she thought she knew and could trust and
besides she had given him a horse worth much more than the board she was to
have for the ponies in return. She believed he was telling her the truth. At
the time it all seemed possible. In hindsight it was a HUGE mistake to trust
this guy. She finally called one morning and his wife was very rude to her
when she asked about the ponies and she finally called the police to go over
and find out where there were. He could not produce the ponies or a farm
that they were supposed to have been staying at so he finally admitted to
the police that he had sold them. He told the police that he had sold them
for back board owed. He was NOT owed any board he had bartered the board for
the horse he was given and there is a truckload of evidence proving this.
We have discovered he has a long history of this kind of thing and several
people have come foward with similar stories about dealing with him. But the
other people he's done it to didn't think they had any recourse because they
never got their agreements with him in writing and had no other way to prove
anything so he's gotten away with this kind of thing over and over. The
police feel this is a civil case and will not help in locating the four
ponies. We are desperately trying to find them. They belong to a young girl
who is terminally ill and who raised two of them from weanlings. She loves
them dearly and is totally heartbroken and distraught over them. She cries
all the time and is having nightmares about them. None of this is helping
her health at all. We're afraid that two of them may have been sold to
slaughter since one was very old and blind in one eye and the other one was
a very cranky and unaffectionate pony. But she adores them. The other two
were both very beautiful and young so they may have been sold to private
owners. The farm owner told the police that he sold them through the
Chamber's Brothers Auction House in Unadilla, NY - notorious for meat buyers
- and he claims to have sold them in May or June but we think they may have
been sold at any time from Dec 2004 on.
