Subj: Tar

I just wanted to let you know that Tar will be on his way home to Michigan June 5th.

Lessee had dropped Tar and another horse (Dixie) off at a boarding facility in Medina, Ohio April 17th then emailed me that she couldn't afford to pay the board, to come and pick him up. I finally got her to give me the telephone number of the boarding facility where the horses were then contacted them. Dorothy an 80 year old woman with a heart of gold has been helping me with the situation since she has both horses at her facility. I contacted her veterinarian and arranged for the health certificate and coggins along with vaccines.

We are waiting on them to come back this week so he can travel. I also paid his board while he stayed at Dorothy's place. Come to find out lessee transported these 2 horses and a pot belly pig all the way from Tennessee with out proper paper work, no coggins or vaccines.

... But all in all Tar will be home safe and sound by this next weekend.

Thank you for your help,
Jill Tiltman

how missing: free leased as a COMPANION ONLY to lady in LaMoille, Ill., in April 2007, with the understanding that I could get Tar back if he was able to travel to Michigan, or if she was unable to keep him.

In Sept. 2007, the lady failed to return phone calls. Then her phone was disconnected. A certified letter with a phone card was signed for but not used to call owner.

Verbal agreement about the welfare and well being of Tar. Owner has a right to know how he is doing and to make sure he is still in her possession and being taken care of properly. If not then arrangements will be made to move him back to Michigan.

Per Owner - I still hold Tars registration Papers as they were never signed off on. Read full story HERE

other info: I would like solid proof that Tar is still at the lady's address in LaMoille, Ill 61330. There is a mare in with him that is an exact match to Tar even down to the white pastern. And I would like to speak with the lady about Tar. If possible I would like a signed agreement from her assuring me that Tar will never leave her possession and that I will be updated on his health 4 times a year along with pictures. If they move, I want a notice with forwarding address until otherwise notified of his death or removal from her property to come back to Michigan.

do agree: yes

I purchased Tar in 1988 off the track and in bad shape for back board. He was my first horse. In August of 2005, I was approached by another boarder at the barn inquiring about purchasing Tar to keep his older horse company when they moved to Tennessee. The two horses got along great and never left each other alone so after months of investigating his new home and owner I drew up a sale/Lease agreement in which in words gave me first choice and legal rights to Tar.

In December of 2006, I received a call from Tennessee telling me to come get my horse since the other horse had died and Tar was driving him nuts because he was by himself. I spent two weeks talking to this man and convinced him to give me some time to make arrangements. No winter coat and the fact that Tar had had EPM and couldn't travel long distances safely.

I posted an ad in Equine Now for a Free Companion horse, with rights and received an email from the lady in LaMoille, Illinois, that she had a big beautiful farm with lots of room and two standardbred mares that were rescues that would like the companion and she attached her telephone number.

I called and she gave me all kinds of excellent references, humane society, EMT, Vet Technician, on and on. So I made arrangements to have Tar moved from Tennessee to Illinois where I would meet him and his new home for now. Now in our conversations the lady did say that I still had the option of coming and picking him up once I had a proper place for him and I told her it would depend on Tar's condition, whether or not he could make that type of trip. On April 20 my husband and I left Holly Michigan for LaMoille, Illinois, to meet Tar's transporter.

Due to the storms and they didn't leave Tennessee until late that evening, they were at least 6 hours behind time for the 10-hour trip. So the decision was made after Tar fell in the trailer to stop and make a two-day trip out of it all. So On Sunday, April 22, Tar arrived in the afternoon at the lady's where we had spent most of the day getting to know each other and looking at her place. The man in Tennessee sent all of Tar's belongings along with wormer, salt blocks, fly masks, fly sheets, blankets, leads halters and his bridle.

I instructed the lady that my Veterinarian said that Tar would not be suitable for riding since he was very unstable on his hind end. After Tar arrived, I walked him around his new place and introduced him to his new family and everything went very smoothly and he moved right in. The lady promised she would keep in touch, write and send pictures. I called her after one week to see how everything was going again a couple weeks later and a month later.

She had no complaints about Tar but said her brother had fallen in love with him so he was caring for him. I did tell her if I had some extra money that I would send it to help out but I do not have a job in the summer so that might not happen for a while, and she had no problem with any of the arrangements.

I called the lady the beginning of September to let her know I was now back to work and to see how Tar was doing and left a message on her voice mail. I repeatedly called at different times and different days during the week for the month of September and the last telephone call stated that the telephone had been disconnected.

On October 10, 2007, I sent out a certified letter and a 100-minute calling card to the lady, which was signed by her brother on October 12, and still no telephone call.

We had a verbal agreement about the welfare and well being of my first horse Tar and I feel I have a right to know how he is doing and to make sure he is still in her possession and being taken care of properly. If not then I will make arrangements to have him moved back to Michigan. I still hold Tar's registration Papers as they were never signed off on.
