NetPosse.com Reports Horse
Thieves hit Martinsville, Indiana aided by unsuspecting Good
Samaritan
October 22, 2006 – Martinsville, IN – Thieves must have
known exactly what they were after when they crept into a
pasture Sunday night, Oct. 22, 2006, and made off with one of
its occupants. Alisa Neal feels like the world fell out from
beneath her and was devastated when she discovered that Weeds
Dialette, “Dilly” her pride and joy for almost two decades, was
gone.
There may be as many as 40,000
horses stolen each year in the United States and many will end
their lives in one of three slaughter plants in the US, and this
is the most haunting fear of any theft victim. The vast majority
of the people think that horse theft went out with the “old west
days”, if they give it any thought at all
Dilly, a reddish brown 21-year old Appaloosa
breeding stock mare is one of thousand of stolen horses whose fate is
uncertain, but whose recovery is certainly possible. Most victims do not
have any idea how their horses were taken.
Horses don’t simply
disappear into thin air -- especially when the thief has so much trouble
loading the horse that an unsuspecting neighbor offered to help him load
Dilly into his white horse trailer.
Beside herself with worry, Alisa is caring for five children and running a
personal business. Aware that she needed help and not prepared to be a
victim of horse theft, Alisa turned to Stolen Horse International (SHI).
Immediately, SHI and its NetPosse volunteer network began working hard
through the SHI’s Idaho Alert Network to locate Dilly. Alisa knows that she
is not alone. She needs the support of her community to see if anyone
noticed the truck, trailer, men involved or the people who were in the
burgundy car. Were these people there to help the thief too?
Providing horse theft education and aiding in the recovery of stolen horses
is what Debi Metcalfe, founder of SHI, does best. No stranger to theft
herself, SHI was formed because of Debi’s personal experience after her
family’s horse, Idaho, was stolen in 1997 and recovered fifty-one weeks
later, through their personal efforts.
It is Debi’s experience and support that helped other victims from Ohio
recover their horses in Indiana a few years ago. Other victims in Indiana
are still searching for their missing horses.
Now SHI is looking to NetPosse volunteers and the public to recover Dilly so
that Alisa and her family will soon have peace when their beloved mare is
safely home. Please help us locate Dilly by forwarding this press release,
sending an email or distributing his flyer.
As Debi Metcalfe is fond of saying, “Never underestimate the power of one!”
It only takes one person to forward an email, post a flyer or make a phone
call. Scout is home because of every one that did just that. Now it’s Venus’
turn.
