Blind in one eye, she has on red halter, dragging lead rope

Washington, VA – The Rogers family is devastated that their young daughter’s pony has run off in an unfamiliar place. While on vacation in Rappahannock County, the girl was hand-grazing the mare that was wearing a red halter when the small brownish horse got away and ran off, dragging her red leadrope. The dark dun pony mare has been missing since Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

Any little girl’s pony is special, but Mercy is more-so than most. Adopted from the United States Equestrian Rescue League (USERL) in Virginia last November, the 13-year-old, 14 hand high Quarter Horse pony is blind in her right eye.

Stolen Horse International, Inc. received an online report on its Web site, www.NetPosse.com, filed by Elise Rogers on Friday, August 26, and, in short order, began distributing the information via the Internet to hundreds of list groups and thousands of individuals in an effort to rally the public to help this family in need. A nonprofit organization, NetPosse, is well known in the equine community for horse theft education and assistance in recovering stolen or missing horses, as well as other equine equipment.

When last seen, Mercy was trotting down 6 Shiloh Lane, on Jordan River Farm in a Southern direction (522 runs north and south). Flint Hill is near the property, and Jordan River runs east and west. The family is asking Hunt Club members and trail riders to help search for Mercy. Circulating Mercy’s flyers and the NetPosse.com Alert (the horse community’s Amber Alert) to all area residents is imperative, as there are numerous horse farms in the area. NetPosse also suggests that flyers be posted in all public places since it is possible that someone has seen Mercy and does not know who to contact.

While it has been several days since Mercy’s disappearance, the urgency of the situation has not diminished, and it is NetPosse’s mission to have every person available know about Mercy and keep an eye out for her.

Mercy’s flyer can be located on her NetPosse.com listing, which is where any updates or leads will be posted. Her report on the Web site is No. 1419, or can be accessed by the direct link: http://www.netposse.com/view_report.asp?reportid=1419. NetPosse recommends posting in tack and feed stores, auction barns, restaurants, and convenience stores; in short, anywhere that area people, and potential witnesses, congregate.

Stolen Horse International, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, SHI was founded in 1998 by Debi Metcalfe after she and her family spent nearly a year trying to locate Idaho, their stolen Racking horse mare. Idaho was recovered when a flyer they had posted at a convenience store resulted in the needed tip.
