According to the article written by Aimee Jones for Henry Herald, September 21, 2016

LOCUST GROVE — Two horses were reported stolen from a property owner near Locust Grove and police are asking for the public’s help in locating the animals.

“Once word gets on the street, we’re hoping someone may have some information and that someone will come forward,” said Henry County Police Department Capt. Joey Smith.

Rachel Moore, who owns the horses, said she contacted police Wednesday morning when she discovered the two animals were missing from her back pasture and the wire fence had been cut.

“It’s obvious that someone cut the fence and took them out,” Moore said. “We’re not sure if they put the horses in a trailer or just cut them loose.”

According to the incident report, the horses were stolen sometime between midnight and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Moore said she lives off Coan Drive, between Ga. Highway 42 and Old Jackson Road. However, the fence was cut and the animals taken from the side of the 5-acre tract that borders Rabbit Run Road, which is a smaller dirt road.

The first horse is described as a 23-year-old Thoroughbred gelding that measures 16.2 hands high with a white blaze on his face and a tattoo inside his lip. He has shoes on his front feet.

The second horse is a 14-year-old Quarter Horse, heavy set, palomino in color with a white mane and tail. The horse measures 15.3 hands tall.

Smith said that livestock thefts in Henry County are not common, and Moore is likewise perplexed.

Moore said because of the horses’ ages, it is unusual that they would be taken.

“I can’t figure it out,” she said. “I could understand if they were really expensive horses. They’re really good looking horses, but they’re not that valuable.”

Moore said the horses belong to her and her daughter. Her daughter, who is now in college, showed the thoroughbred several years ago when she was younger, but mainly the horses are family pets.

“They are really pasture ornaments,” Moore said. “We really love them; they are our family.”

Anyone with information about the stolen horses is asked to call the Henry County Police Department at 770-288-8200 or Rachel Moore at 678-618-7735.
