Summit County family using drones, psychics to search for missing horse

25 July 2018

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio - It’s been three weeks now since Foxy the horse went missing from her Sagamore Hills home. Countless searches have turned up nothing.

The area is surrounded by dense woods — the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Cleveland Metroparks.

Foxy’s owners, Joe and Joyce Stanyanchi, have gone to great lengths to find their beloved 15-year-old American Paint, and they show no signs of stopping the searches.

“It’s hard to miss a 900-pound horse,” Joe Stanyanchi said.

Foxy was last seen on July 3 when she was spooked by fireworks and took off from the home on Dunham Road.

Dozens of volunteers have turned up to help search over the last few weeks. The Ohio Horseman’s Council has trekked through the woods on horseback while the sheriff’s office has used four-wheelers. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park rangers, Metropark horse rangers and Sagamore Hills police are among others who have been involved in searchers. Heat-seeking drones have been used to scour from overhead.

The couple has even hired animal communicators and psychics to help.

“I know it sounds strange, but we tried everything,” Stanyanchi said. One psychic mentioned seeing Foxy in a pasture.

“We tend to think that someone has her now, because we haven’t found her body, we haven’t found any signs of her in three weeks,” Stanyanchi said.

He said she was last spotted three weeks ago on Sagamore Road near Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare.

Foxy is reddish brown with unique markings on her body and white “socks.” She stands nearly six feet tall and is 15 years old. She was wearing a bright orange halter and 20-foot long lead line when she ran off.

The couple has only had her for a year, but said she is part of their family.

They have doubled the reward to $5,000.

If you spot Foxy or have any information, call the Summit County Sheriff’s Office or Sagamore Hills Police.
