Owner Rachel Moore said Buddy, a 14-year-old Quarter Horse, and Henry, a 23-year-old retired Thoroughbred racehorse, were in their pasture when she checked on them in the early morning hours of Sept. 21. But by the time she called them in for their morning feed, both horses were gone.

“The just didn't come in, so I went out into the pasture to look for them,” Moore said.

While checking fences, Moore found that one section of fence had been pushed over. Henry County Police Department personnel later determined that the fence had been cut and laid down. Both animals are believed to have been loaded into a waiting trailer, Moore said.

“Their halters were in the garage, so whoever took them must have brought their own,” she said.

Two days later, on Sept. 23, Moore recovered the Quarter Horse after receiving a call from another horse owner in South Carolina.

“He told us that someone tried to sell Buddy to him,” Moore said. “He'd seen reports that the horses were missing and called us right away.”

Henry is described as a 16-hand chestnut gelding with a white blaze, a left-rear sock, a white marking on his front pastern, and a white stripe in his mane. His front feet are shod.

Moore is offering a cash reward of an undisclosed amount for Henry's safe return.

“No questions asked,” she said. “We just want him back.”
