Mohave County Sheriff's Deputies were on routine patrol in the area of Ryan and Castlerock on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, when they spotted something out of place-a horse tied in a backyard in an area not zoned for livestock. Naturally, they stopped to ask questions. The questions led to more questions.
The male in the house, when questioned at 1:30 pm, told MC deputies that his sister, Laura Noreen Smith, 21, and his girlfriend, Kimberly Catherine Loller, 18, had brought the horse home on Tuesday evening. When questioned about the whereabouts of the two women, he indicated that they had gone to get horse feed.
The alleged victim was able to identify the horse by unique markings and shoes. Reputed value of the horse is $10,000.
The women returned to the house about 2:10 pm and were arrested and charged with felony theft. They are reputedly saying that a friend named "Steve" gave them the horse, but they don't know his last name or phone number.
A neighor told MCSD that they saw the women walking the horse early Wednesday.
