Just imagine this one--
You are in the front pasture riding your horse. The delivery truck just went by and sent you a message that they left a package at your front gate that you have been expecting.
Now you can see the front gate from where you are riding, but you can't just get there that easily. Nothing ever happens in your neighborhood so you aren't really worried-then a black SUV pulling a flat bed utility trailer pulls up in front of your gate.
Somebody gets out-picks up YOUR package-and puts it on that trailer-and gets back in the SUV. You are too far away to see the make and model - never mind the tag. This is Ocala, FL-can you imagine how many black SUV's there must be in Ocala, FL? Mind blowing. ou can't see anything really about who got your package either other than it was a woman-it was just too far away. You did see it though. Otherwise, you'd never believe it.
Captain Louis Pulford, watch commander of the Marion County Sheriff's Office, was quoted as saying, "These individuals would drive through the Marion Oaks area and wait until packages were dropped off to numerous homes. When the packages were not immediately retrieved by homeowners, they would steal the packages."
Law enforcement across the country saw a spike in this kind of theft. Some of the tips that were being offered was to have packages delivered to a neighbor that you trusted and that you knew would be home, have packages delivered to your workplace, or have them delivered "signature required".
This theft may have been targeted or it may just have been one of convenience. Whatever it may have been, doing it in broad daylight in front of people takes some big ones.
