Doc's Misadventures

Doc's Misadventures

31 August 2014

Dan Stanko was out in Denver, CO helping his parents move.  Since he knew he would be gone for awhile, he asked a friend to watch his property and especially his horse, Doc, while he was away.Doc recovered.jpg

On August 27, the friend called with the news that Doc was missing out of the pasture - apparently, he had gotten out somehow. Dan started posting on Facebook himself and eventually found his way to Netposse.com.

He can't leave Colorado because of his parents, but he's worried about his horse being missing. With the help of friends and neighbors, flyers are put up and the word is spread locally. The Facebook network is activated.

Apparently, Doc had gone wandering and somebody found him in the road. Rather than risk him getting hurt, they caught him and put him in the nearest pasture. Unknown to them, the property owner was considerably less than horse friendly.

Instead of notifying law enforcement of an estray animal on her property, she called a neighbor to come get the horse before she turned the horse loose again. (Not notifying law enforcement is illegal as is knowingly releasing an animal to roam at large.)

Fortunately, this person came and got Doc and moved him to his pasture. He did notify law enforcement. The reason no one looking for Doc had seen him driving around was the pastures were all back off the road.

Late Saturday, August 30th, Dan got the call that Doc had been located and was "in custody". Thanks to caring friends who wouldn't give up their search for a friend, Doc is back home where he belongs.
