As all of the Netposse followers know, this band of mustangs was taken off of private land without permission and hauled to a sale barn in Waterflow, NM. Here we pick up on what has happened to them since:
Because of so many threatening phone calls including death threats, the brand inspector allowed the sale of all of the foals. These animals were killed - primarily for their skins. We have to remind everyone - do NOT call anyone - and we do mean ANYONE - who could be involved with a case except us or other designated individuals. Things like this happen because of emotions getting out of hand and words being said that should not have been spoken. We know you care and we appreciate that. But, PLEASE, when we ask for your help - DO ONLY WHAT WE ASK YOU TO DO. These foals might still be alive today.
Black Jack, because he was one-eyed and a stallion, was deemed to be defective and shot.
The mares, about 14 of them, were loaded onto cattle trailers and moved - we are told - to a remote piece of land possibly to fatten them up for sale for slaughter later. There are some ideas of where they are, but nobody is speaking as of yet in order not to spook the offenders in
Judy Barnes, Spirit of the Wild Horse, (719)206-2749, is actively out on the mesas looking for them. to moving them again. She is desperately in need of financial support as it is over 100 miles from one end of the mesa to the other. Gas out there is running $3.80 and pumps are far between. Another need she has is for game cameras to put out on the mesa to track the movements of the horses. So if you know of a hunter who is replacing/upgrading - ask for his old one. Judy can put it to good use.
