American Legacy is NOT For Sale

Wild Horse Mesa, CO, the wider surrounding area, and points south and southeast throughout New Mexico to the Mexican Border Crossings : Stolen Horse International teamed up with The Cloud Foundation, Cloud The Stallion and Judy Barnes, director of Spirit of the Wild Horses,  in an effort to search and recover 25-30 missing and assumed stolen wild Mustangs from Melby Ranch—Wild Horse Mesa, in the San Luis Valley, Costilla County, Colorado.

The horses were rounded up by three riders. A high-end white Dodge four door truck was seen at the roundup site. Then, during the night of August 8, 2014, the entire band was loaded onto two stock trailers. Ages range from foals to in the 20's. The stallion Black Jack is known to be one eyed. Most of the band is bay with white face markings and white rear socks/stockings.

Thousands of people on Facebook and other social media have been sharing the information about the horses. Even more NetPosse Alerts were sent out to private emails through the organization. It was imperative to move quickly as the sale barn is notorious for being a place for "kill" buyers looking to fill their trucks on the way to Mexico.

A tip came in that the Jack Black Band had been transported to an auction house in Kirtland, NM. Unfortunately, that tip proved to be unreliable. When the paperwork was checked by law enforcement, the documents were considered correct and the trucks were released with the horses.

Sale of wild horses has been increasing and some see it as being necessary to rid the range of "nuisance" horses. Most of the roundups are not being done by the Bureau of Land Management, but by private individuals doing it purely for profit motives.

Do not underestimate the power of the people who love these horses, see them as one of our national icon and part of our American history.

So where are Jack Black and his merry band of Mustangs? No one really knows but the search is just beginning and will not stop until there are answers, horses, and hopefully both.

"I have no doubt that these horses will be located," says Debi Metcalfe, president of Stolen Horse International. "I know how much these horse are loved by many. After talking with Judy Barnes, I know she and her band of Mustangs would not settle for anything less than a recovery."

Once all of the horses are located, there is still the problem of getting them all back.

"I need volunteers to trailer them back to their home. I want to release them back into the wild at the same time together. That is very important to a band of wild horses like these," says Judy Barnes.

If you would like to help, please go to www.netposse.com, type NR002329 in the search box to find Judy’s contact information and updates on Jack Blacks Band of stolen Mustangs.
