Dear Friend:

I am writing to you today on behalf of Stolen Horse International, Inc. (SHI). Our federal 501(c)3 nonprofit organization provides services to horse owners like no one else in the world. The primary goal of our organization is to bring missing horses home after theft or disaster strikes.

Would you consider making a donation to Stolen Horse International's upcoming annual eBay Mission Fish Auction?

Our first auction held in December 2005 sold 51 donated items, yielding a little over $2,000! This year we hope to be bigger and better! We are expanding the auction and making this our main fundraiser for the year 2006 with a little help from friends like you.

You may view last year’s auction items at: http://www.netposse.com/shi_auction.htm

Once your item is received, you or your business will receive a small advertisement on our website to help you advertise and in appreciation of your kindness. Unfortunately, there has been no funding available from the government or grant organizations to support us which is why we are now reaching out to you. We are asking you for your support to help us to by donating one or more items so we can continue to provide products to horse owners at exceptionally low cost. The proceeds from the sales will go 100% to Stolen Horse International, Inc.

Please go to www.netposse.com  to view our site, purpose and the good work that we do. Our NetPosse Volunteer Network, similar to the Amber Alert, was started in 1997 and involves thousands. There may be as many as 40,000 horses stolen each year with many more missing through civil theft.

We are the only nonprofit organization helping victims and offering educational programs. We depend entirely on donations and the sell of Identification products for much needed funding.

Our website is also viewed by an astounding number of people every day, between 40,000-56,000 per month, which has generated more than 9 MILLION hits on the site in the last 12 months! Out of the many horses reported as stolen or missing last year, almost half were recovered! Tack and trailers, can also be reported to NetPosse.

My husband Harold Metcalfe and I have devoted our lives to the recovery of stolen and missing horses. Our family founded the organization after our own horse, Idaho, was stolen and recovered. At that time, there were few, if any, Internet resources available. We had only ourselves, family and a network of friends. Amazed, we watched this network grow rapidly as the weeks turned into months. During this search, the media dubbed our group “NetPosse” … and after Idaho was recovered 51 weeks later, I knew that I had to help others.

Through our efforts and SHI volunteers, Stolen Horse International and NetPosse have become synonymous with horse theft. Anyone who researches horse theft or stolen horses on the Internet is bound to pull up a link relating to SHI.

I address audiences of all sizes through speaking engagements each year on the topics of horse theft prevention, the importance of horse identification and disaster preparedness.

SHI services include, but are not limited to: long distance calls to contact law enforcement or follow up on leads; the creation, printing and distribution of flyers; indefinite hosting of victim’s information on its website (www.netposse.com); or continuous updates to flyers and/or website information. But in order to keep these services, SHI must find new and permanent ways to fund its operations

If you ask someone whose horse has been stolen or become missing how SHI and NetPosse have supported and aided them in the process of searching and/or recovery, you will discover overwhelming praise and gratitude. If you ask someone to put a price on these services, I bet they can’t.

Please Share with SHI and help SHI/NetPosse continue to help bring horses home to the families that love and miss them by a product donation from your company.

Help us to make a difference in the lives of countless victims each year. All donations to Stolen Horse International, Inc. are tax deductible and a Tax Receipt will be issued immediately upon receipt of your donation. Whether big or small, every donation is appreciated. Thank you for your support.

I look forward to your reply.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can you send to SHI? We will accept almost anything* other than perishable items that you can imagine that is allowed on eBay. For example, if you are a:

  • Clinician we would love to have autographed books, DVD's, gift boxes, memberships etc, clinic tickets, admission as a participant in a clinic etc.

  • Lodging host: If you have a cabin, bed and breakfast, camping facility, motel we would love to have a gift certificate for a stay at your establishment.  This was one of our highest bid items in the last auction.

  • Artist: sign artwork and sculptures

  • Author: Autographed books, DVD's, tapes

  • Designer:  Anything from your collection of designs

  • Business owner: Gift cards, certificates, gift boxes of products from your store or catalog

  • NetPosse Volunteer:  New and used items from your home,  farm or new items from businesses in your area, homemade items from you or your friends

  • Victims of theft:  Any of the above items that you can gather together for which a special recognition of your missing horse missing horse will be on the auction page for each donated item.  See example here

  • TV or Radio Host:  Any of the above, free advertisement, interview about the auction

  • Magazine Editor: Magazine subscriptions

  • Tack Shop: saddle, all kinds of tack, giftware, etc

* While we appreciate any and all donations, we do ask that donated item(s) be valued at a minimum of $25 (either separately or sold as a group) because SHI does incur some listing fees, as well as the time it takes to create and place each auction listing on eBay. Also, please remember that every company or individual that donates items will receive FREE advertisement on the NetPosse website for several months if not longer for listing an item(s). That alone is worth more than $25. Feel free to look at last year’s items to see the variety of auctions. (Per Mission Fish, the donation minimum is $10).

When do I send the donation?: Now!  It takes a great deal of time to catalog and prepare items for the auction.  The sooner you get your item into SHI the sooner your listing will go on the website.  This means if you send it now you could have months of free advertisement!

What do I include with the item?:  Please include the following information about your donation(s):

  • Name of Company

  • Short description of your business or service

  • Mailing address

  • Telephone number

  • email address and website address
