Hayward
and Dona Simmons, owners of Lakeview Plantation, have developed
this property into an excellent equestrian getaway. Located
approximately 80 miles southwest of
Columbia
, the facility offers a peaceful getaway among forests and
wildlife management lands.
Corral stabling is located at each campsite. Quiet evenings may be
enjoyed sitting under the stars, meeting new friends and sharing
conversation with long-time friends. For more information on
Lakeview Plantation, visit www.lakeviewplantation.com
.
The
weekend is designed to allow riders to enjoy over 60 miles of
well-marked trails at their leisure. One can ride through a mix of
palmetto, pine, cypress and hardwoods on 40 miles of marked trails
divided into six loops of approximately seven miles each or
explore an additional 40-50 miles of unmarked trails. Many trails
can accommodate wagons. There is the choice of riding one day or
all three days with camping sites and RV hook-ups available. For
those who don’t wish to camp, there are rooms in the heated and
air conditioned lodge.
On Saturday, educational sessions
will be
presented by AQHA Professional Horseman, Mike Kinsey of
Belton
,
S.C.
, Nutrena Feeds, Debi Metcalfe of the Stolen Horse
International, Inc. and the Netposse.com,

weekend. Nutrena Feeds will be on hand to discuss equine
nutrition. The Southern Blue Ridge Back
Country Horsemen will present information on Leave No Trace trail
riding.
Debi Metcalfe has been a featured speaker at Equine
Affaire, Virginia Equine Extravaganza, and the Southern Horse
Festival, educating horse owners about theft prevention and
recovery. SHI aims to
increase awareness on this subject through education, while
providing a service to horse enthusiasts and law enforcement
agencies. She will be on hand to share this
information with Ride participants. Recent articles in Horse
Illustrated and The Practical Horseman have
featured theft issues and Stolen Horse International, Inc. Another
