How do they get those stolen horses? -- A message from Debi
Metcalfe Horse Thieves in the Southeast!!!!
They can't get my horses because....I hear that everywhere I go followed
with an explanation that is plausible to the person spouting out the
foolishness. The truth is, if you do not have 24 hour security on your
horses there is always a way to take your horse. Horse theft like any other
crime can be a crime of opportunity or one planned out in great detail.
Here is one scary account that happened in February 2007 in
South Carolina.
|
I just felt all those in the southeast need to be
warned. A few of us in the Spartanburg and Greenville SC area
received several calls from a cell phone asking questions about our
miniature horses.
They wanted to come see ours and my husband told them they would
have to come the next day. Well they showed up anyway.
Lucky for us our neighbor asked them what they were doing since they
showed up in a white F250 and big white Ponderosa goose neck. They
told her they were here to pick up 10 miniature horses. She called
my husband and found out no they were not.
There were three of them, 2 Hispanic men and one
woman, who wore those big sunglasses so you could not to see her
face. My neighbor made them leave and tried to get their tag but the
man backed out my 1100 foot drive so she could not see it.
We gave the police this info. Just wanted to share
this so it would not happen to anyone else. Had it not been for our
neighbor we would have lost our entire little herd. |
Do you still think it can't happen to you? Protect yourself
and your horses.... Don't Be a Victim.

| Note about Internet Listings
-
If you chose to advertise your horse for sale on the internet or
publish your information on a personal website...beware!
Internet resources and classified ad sites with horses for sale can
be a thief's index to where they find their next horse. On
these sites the information is right before them and can have the
vital information they need to find your horse through a farm
directory, trainers, tack for sale, show schedules, registries from
around the world, bookstores, forums, message boards and more.
The internet is an online library resource for a thief for all
horses as well as mini horses. In a few clicks of a button at thief
can find miniature horse breeding facts, pick out a horse color and
sex, find miniature horse farms and they may even know when you are
going to be away from your farm attending a horse conference or
horse show. In other words, the online horse classified ad sites and
message boards are have it all.
Of course we are not going to quit listing our horses in classifieds
nor are we going to stop putting our information on our websites.
What we can do is to plan ahead for the worst, just like we do when
we buy insurance, betting the worst will not happen.
Identify your horses and tack. Post signs on your property. |
