Thank you for taking time to read this important letter from NetPosse founder, Debi Metcalfe.
Please take a moment to review items from previous auctions HERE. Once we begin uploading the 2007 items, a link will be provided.
Dear Potential NetPosse Supporter:
Each year Stolen Horse International, aka NetPosse.com, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, continues to bring forth education in the horse industry. Through our programs concerning horse theft, disaster planning, and horse identification, just to name a few, we have seen many horse owners benefit. Through our victims service programs we have helped change the lives of missing horse victims, often assisting in bringing their horses home.
Here are recent highlights from just the first six months of this year involving stolen and missing horses:
Taz and Sandy were reported missing in North Carolina when the caretaker skipped town after selling both horses. With NetPosse’s help, Sandy was recovered in October and Taz was found and brought home on his owner’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, after an 800-mile journey by my husband and me. Words cannot describe the heartache involved of the unexpected victims who’d legally purchased these horses nor the owner’s joy in having them home.
Cheyenne, stolen in North Carolina in Sept. 2001, was recovered five years later when his most recent owner saw his listing on NetPosse.com and contacted his original owner.
Holley Belle, stolen in Oklahoma in May 2007, was recovered 10 days later. Her case uncovered a theft ring so that other stolen horses were successfully recovered, including Halston (stolen April 2007), and JP Cody Bar Moon (stolen Dec. 2006).
Sunshine and Leo were reported missing in Texas in April and May, respectively. After canvassing the areas and posting NetPosse flyers, both horses were found at nearby properties.
Cowboy (ID), Junior (MI, and Empty Glass (GA) are three more missing/stolen horses that were able to come home safely through the efforts of NetPosse volunteers.
While there are many more success stories, as long as horses remain missing and horse theft still exists, this organization must grow and reach out to unsuspecting owners. This is where we need your help.
Expanding our presence in the horse industry is essential to helping the thousands whose horses become missing or stolen each year as well as the continued success of our educational programs. And growth brings increased expenses. Stolen Horse International provides services to horse owners like no one else in the world. Today you can help us make a difference.
Would you consider making a donation to Stolen Horse International's upcoming annual eBay Mission Fish Auction? Each item you send can help us raise the funds to help victims like those listed. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will help us provide more educational programs.
This will be SHI’s third annual auction. The previous two have provided much needed monies to keep this organizational operational and growing. The funds raised went toward administrative costs, presentation expenses, a new website server and other daily expenses. We expect this year’s to be even greater!
With a little help from friends like you, we can raise much needed funds. Supporters of past auctions include some of the industry clinicians such as Monty Roberts, Pat Parelli, John and Josh Lyons, Craig Cameron and Lynn Palm, along with artists, authors and many others.
How do you benefit from our auction?
Once your item is received, we will place your information on our website to help promote your products and/or in appreciation of your kindness. You will also receive free eBay auction exposure through the Mission Fish Auction paid for by Stolen Horse International. All donations to Stolen Horse International, Inc. are tax deductible and a Tax Receipt will be issued upon receipt of your donation.
Unfortunately, there has been no funding available from the government or grant organizations to support us which is why we are now reaching out to you. We are asking you for your support to help us to by donating one or more items so we can continue to provide services and products to horse owners at exceptionally low cost. The proceeds from the sales will go 100% to Stolen Horse International, Inc.
NetPosse In Review
We are the only nonprofit organization helping victims and offering educational programs. We depend entirely on fundraisers like this one, donations and the sale of identification and security products for much needed funding.
Please go to www.netposse.com to view our site, purpose and the good work that we do. Our NetPosse Volunteer Network, similar to the Amber Alert, was started in 1997 and involves thousands. There may be as many as 40,000 horses stolen each year with many more missing through civil theft.
Our website is also viewed by an astounding number of people every day, between 70,000-80,000 unique visitors per month, which has generated more than a million hits per month. And the average number of visitors is increasing each month! Out of the many horses reported as stolen or missing last year, the recovery rate is approximately 50 percent! Tack and trailers, can also be reported to NetPosse.
My husband Harold Metcalfe and I have devoted our lives to the recovery of stolen and missing horses. Our family founded the organization after our own horse, Idaho, was stolen and recovered. At that time, there were few, if any, Internet resources available. We had only ourselves, family and a network of friends. Amazed, we watched this network grow rapidly as the weeks turned into months. During this search, the media dubbed our group “NetPosse” … and after Idaho was recovered 51 weeks later, I knew that I had to help others.
Through our efforts and those of volunteers, Stolen Horse International and NetPosse have become synonymous with horse theft. I address audiences of all sizes through speaking engagements each year on the topics of horse theft prevention, the importance of horse identification and disaster preparedness. Anyone who researches horse theft or stolen horses on the Internet is bound to pull up a NetPosse link.
SHI services include, but are not limited to: long distance calls to contact law enforcement or follow up on leads; the creation, printing and distribution of flyers; indefinite hosting of victim’s information on its website (www.netposse.com); or continuous updates to flyers and/or website information. But in order to keep these services available, SHI must find new and permanent ways to fund its operations.
If you ask someone whose horse has been stolen or become missing how SHI and NetPosse have supported and aided them in the process of searching and/or recovery, you will discover overwhelming praise and gratitude. If you ask someone to put a price on these services, I bet they can’t.
Please Share with SHI and help SHI/NetPosse continue to help bring horses home to the families that love and miss them by donating a product(s) from your company.
Help us to make a difference in the lives of countless victims each year. I hope we can count on you to send the most generous gift you can, as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and I look forward to your reply.
With high hopes,
Debi Metcalfe President
