Alert flashed after wave of horse thefts

SIX horses have been stolen from their paddocks in County Wicklow including Kanta s Cavalier by Cavalier owned by Lisa Landau.

Kanta's Cavalier was seventh in the Future Event Horse final at Lambertstown last year and is valued at around pounds 50,000.

The horses were in a 100 acre field in an isolated area and Lisa is convinced the horses were stolen to order. It is suspected that some of the other horses may have been sold for slaughter. The six horses were taken between December 4 and December 13.

In Limerick Garda are also investigating the theft of and Irish Draught gelding stolen from its field at Askeaton around December 17-18.

This 16.3 gelding has four white socks and a white blaze on his forehead. It is likely that he has been sold on in Northern Ireland or England

The spate of horse thefts is a warning for Northern owners to keep vigilant for suspicious jeeps and trailers in their area.

Stolen horses from Wicklow include a 15hh chestnut cob mare with white mane and tail, four white socks and white stripe on face around 16 years.

The others are a dark bay gelding, four years with small white patch on muzzle and white on heel of front fore and wart on near side of neck.

There is a 16.2 dark bay mare ten years, white mark on wither and a 16hh light bay mare black points with white star and trickle of white down centre of face, ten years old.

A 16hh dark bay mare, 14 years old has white on muzzle, two white hind socks and white on off front fetlock.
